4 Helpful Tips for the Fearful Flier

If you are afraid of flying, don't let your fear keep you from joining your colleagues on a business trip or embarking on your dream vacation. With the following tips from our Oakland Airport long term parking service, you'll be able to calm your nerves and feel better about flying.

1.      Book an aisle seat – Many airlines give you the option to pick your seat, with some charging a small fee. If you have the option, choose an aisle seat. By sitting in the aisle seat you can easily stand up and take a walk to the bathroom, should you suddenly feel anxious.

2.       Keep yourself distracted – Pack items in your carry-on bag that will help keep your mind occupied. Bring along a movie, book, crossword puzzle or even things you need to complete for work. Also consider downloading games that don't require WiFi on your smartphone or tablet that will help distract you from negative thoughts about flying.

3.      Avoid caffeine – Avoid drinks containing caffeine, like coffee and soda, as they will only increase your anxiety.

4.      Breathe – Practicing soothing breathing is an effective way to calm yourself down and ease your nerves about flying. Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth as slowly as possible. Doing this will help you feel more relaxed and rid yourself of any anxiety that creeps up on you during your flight.
